ONU converts fiber-based optical impulses to electrical signals. Individual subscribers receive these electrical impulses. Between ONU and the end user’s premises, there is usually a distance or other access network. ONU can also send, collect, and groom various sorts of data from customers and deliver it upstream to the OLT. Grooming is the process of optimizing and reorganizing a data stream to make it more efficient to provide. The OLT supports bandwidth allotment, which enables the smooth delivery of data float to the OLT, which is typically delivered in bursts from the consumer.
