In this guide, we will explain everything you need to know about the G/ EPON ONU IP address, how to do a basic G/ EPON ONU configuration, and how to log in using the default username and password for G/EPON ONUs. Whether you’re a beginner or just need a quick reference, this article is written to help you get started.
What Is an G/EPON ONU IP Address?
Think of an G/EPON ONU as the “translator box” for your fiber internet. It’s the small device (usually white or black) that the technician installs when you get fiber service. This box takes the invisible light signals traveling through the thin glass fiber cable from the street and turns them into regular internet that your computer, phone, and Wi-Fi router can understand.

Every EPON ONU has its own “digital home address” called an IP address. This is how you talk to it when changing settings. Most models use common addresses like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1—similar to how many houses on a street might have numbers like 101, 102, 103.
To find this address:
Connect your laptop directly to the ONU using an Ethernet cable.
On a Windows PC, press Windows Key + R, type cmd, then type ipconfig.
Look for “Default Gateway” – that’s your ONU’s IP.
Type it into your web browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.).
Why it matters: If your ONU’s IP is like your home address, your browser is like a mail carrier. Typing 192.168.1.1 tells the browser, “Take me to the ONU’s settings office.”
G/EPON ONU Configuration Basics
Once you can access the ONU using its IP address, the next step is configuration. This means setting up the internet connection type, VLAN, and other options. Below is a simple step-by-step guide to help you do this.

Step 1: Log in to the Web Interface
First, open a browser and enter the ONU IP address (for example, 192.168.1.1). A login screen will appear. You will need to enter a username and password. If you don’t know them, check the label on the device or refer to the default login information (we’ll share this in the next section).
Step 2: Set Up the Network
After logging in, go to the section labeled Network, WAN, or something similar. Here, you can choose your internet connection type. There are usually three options:
DHCP—The IP is assigned automatically. This is the easiest and most common option.

Static IP—You manually enter the IP address, subnet, and gateway. Use this if your ISP gave you fixed settings.
PPPoE—You enter a username and password provided by your internet provider.
Step 3: PON Settings (Optional)
Some G/EPON ONUs also need you to configure PON authentication. This might include entering a Serial Number (SN), LOID, or a PON password. Your internet provider will tell you if this is needed.
Step 4: Save Settings and Reboot
After you’ve made all the changes, don’t forget to save the settings. Then, reboot the ONU. Once it restarts, it should be connected to the internet.
G/EPON ONU Default Username and Password
Most G/EPON ONUs come with a default username and password, which are used the first time you log in. These are usually printed on a sticker on the device or listed in the user manual.
Here are some examples of common default login credentials:
Brand/Model Default Username Default Password
Baudcom EPON ONU admin admin
Huawei HG8310M root admin
ZTE F601 admin admin
Fiberhome AN5506 user user1234
If you try these and they don’t work, it’s possible that the password was changed before. In that case, you may need to reset the ONU to factory settings by pressing the small reset button on the back of the device (usually for 5–10 seconds).

Default passwords are public knowledge. Hackers can scan for devices using admin/admin and lock you out of your own internet.
Once logged in, they could slow down your speed, steal your Wi-Fi, or redirect you to fake bank websites.
Always go to User Management > Change Password after setup. Pick a strong password.

What If You Can’t Log In?
If you cannot access the ONU settings page or the username/password doesn’t work, here are some things to check:
- IP Address Conflict: Make sure your computer is using an IP in the same range as the ONU. For example, if the ONU is 192.168.1.1, your PC should be 192.168.1.x.
- Wrong Credentials: Double-check the username and password. Try all the common defaults.
- Firewall or Antivirus Block: Sometimes your security software can block local IP access. Try disabling it temporarily.
- Physical Connection: Make sure the Ethernet cable is properly connected to the ONU and your computer.
- Reset the ONU: If nothing works, press the reset button on the ONU for a few seconds to restore factory settings.
Internet not working after setup?
Check the lights:

PON/LOS = No fiber signal → Check cable bends or call ISP.
PON blinking= Connecting… → Wait 5 minutes.
LAN off ❌ = Bad Ethernet cable → Swap cables.
Forgot your custom password?
Press the reset button (tiny hole on the ONU) with a paperclip for 10 seconds.
Warning: This erases all settings! Your internet will break until the ISP reprograms it.
Conclusión
Setting up an G/EPON ONU is usually a simple process once you understand the basic steps. First, connect your computer and access the ONU’s web page using the default IP address. Then log in with the default username and password, and adjust the network settings as needed. Most of the time, choosing DHCP or PPPoE is enough to get your internet working.
It’s also a good idea to change the default login password after setup to keep your network secure. If you are using multiple ONUs for a large building or business, make sure you write down each unit’s MAC address or serial number before installing.
