How to Distinguish Huawei GPUF and Huawei GPHF?

Huawei MA5800 series GPON service boards Huawei GPHF and Huawei GPUF perform different functions but have extremely similar appearance export for the board name label on the handle bar. Because GPUF has lower performance and a lower price than GPHF, in order to make more money, some suppliers change the GPUF label and configuration information to GPHF, and then nominally deliver GPHF to customers, which is actually a function of GPUF.

Huawei GPUF and Huawei GPHF currently have two versions: H901GPUF, H902GPUF; H901GPHF, H902GPHF.

The H901GPUF and H901GPHF have the same appearance (same location of chips, radiator and circuit element), as do the H902GPUF and H902GPHF.

Here we take H901GPUF and H901GPHF as an example.

As you can see in the image above, Huawei GPHF and Huawei GPUF are identical. Only the labels on the front panel and handle of the original Huawei H901GPUF tablet display GPHF, while the labels on the front panel and handle show GPUF. To deceive the customer, the dishonest supplier changed the two labels as well as the configuration information on the Huawei MA5800.

How to distinguish Huawei GPHF and Huawei GPUF?

According to the comparison list, Huawei GPHF and Huawei GPUF differ in terms of MAX MAC address, 9K Jumbo frames, HQoS, PON ISSU, and D-CCAP. Most of these differences can only be identified on-site and are not visible in the OLT system, but you can distinguish two boards’ 9K Jumbo frames by following the steps below.

  1. Insert GPHF and GPUF, power on Huawei MA5800 (we do the test on Huawei MA5800 X17)
  2. Login Huawei MA5800 via Secure CRT
  3. “display board 0”

MA5800-X17(config)#display board 0

{ <cr>||<K> }:

display board 0

SlotID  BoardName  Status          SubType0 SubType1    Online/Offline

 5      H901GPUF   Normal

8      H901GPHF   Normal

9      H902MPLA   Active_normal

10     H902MPLA   Standby_normal

11     H901GPHF   Normal

13     H901GPHF   Normal

20     H901PILA   Normal

  1. Confirm board in slot 5, 11 and 13

MA5800-X17(config)# board confirm 0/5

0 frame 5 slot board confirms successfully

MA5800-X17(config)# board confirm 0/11

0 frame 11 slot board confirms successfully

MA5800-X17(config)# board confirm 0/13

0 frame 13 slot board confirms successfully

  1. Check board jumbo-frame

MA5800-X17(config)#interface gpon 0/5

MA5800-X17(config-if-gpon-0/5)#jumbo-frame 0 enable

Failure: The board does not support this operation

MA5800-X17(config-if-gpon-0/5)#interface gpon 0/11

MA5800-X17(config-if-gpon-0/11)#jumbo-frame 0 enable

MA5800-X17(config-if-gpon-0/11)#interface gpon 0/13

MA5800-X17(config-if-gpon-0/13)#jumbo-frame 0 enable

You can see that the board in slot 5 GPUF does not support jumbo frames, while the GPHF in slots 11 and 13 do.

So if you intend to buy Huawei GPHF, make sure it is real GPHF, not fake GPHF. And double-check if one supplier’s quotation is much lower than the market price of other suppliers’ price, because the price of Huawei GPHF and Huawei GPUF have both increased due to less and less stock in the market.

Lomoveishiy – Finland

I needed those to connect my PC on the third floor to have internet access in that room, and ISP installed their modem on the first floor only. After dropping fiber patch cables, plugged in all cables into these media converters at both sides, and link came up instantly. Was much easier than I thought!

Raymond – USA

Great experience – units worked straight out of the box – just needed plug in cables and we were done. I also like the possibility to enable jumbo frames, while we do not have a need for this feature at the current moment it’s great to have this option.
